The GOOD PURPOSE PROJECT LBG was birthed from a desire to reach out to the less fortunate, poor and needy children of Ghanaian society. For years, our team members have individually and collectively supported underprivileged children.

However, our yearning to do more made it necessary to come together and form an organization through which we could channel our efforts and appeal to others for support.

Finally, in February 2021, The GOOD PURPOSE PROJECT was incorporated as a non-profit, non-governmental organization.

Our Mission

To connect impoverished children with sponsors that can provide them with food, shelter, education, security and protection.

Our Vision

To give every child the opportunity to harness their full potential and live their purpose.

Our Purpose

Our core mandates are to focus on child development, advocacy, training, securing sponsorship for children in need, and child protection. We strive to play an impactful part in engaging private sector organizations and individuals to ensure that underprivileged children receive the care and attention that will give them a fighting chance in life.

We intend to remain as a medium that helps recruit sponsors and connect them to unfortunate, poor and needy children under the legal jurisdictions of Ghana.

Our Reach

Our intervention efforts are largely focused in the slums of communities such as mamobi, Otinibi, Agbogbloshie, Amrahia, Chorkor, Nima, Jamestown, Shiabu, and other impoverished areas within the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

Families in these localities typically have about five children per household and struggle to get by on extremely low paying, often irregular work. As a result, finances are focused on critical needs like food and water, making things like school and its associated costs an unaffordable luxury. Where families can afford to pay school fees, purchasing uniforms and school materials often becomes a dire problem. Sadly, a lot of the children living in these places are orphans, making their chances of a fairly decent life even more difficult.

As we grow, we hope to:

  1. Enlarge our scope to impoverished areas outside of the Greater Accra Region, and to the other 15 regions in Ghana.
  2. Run advocacy and public awareness programs on child development and safety.
  3. Provide vocational and technical skills to empower the parents of sponsored children to become self-sufficient

Our Focus on Education

Schools in poor communities that cater to poor families are poorly resourced, needless to say. These children are subjected to the same examinations as their peers in better-off schools with libraries, IT centres and other necessary facilities. The extreme consequence of this is that the children in genuine need of scholarships more often than not perform poorly and so are unable to receive them, while the well-off children who attend good schools perform better and end up being eligible for scholarships which give them access to free, or highly subsidised university education.

The challenge of actually staying in school is another hurdle that boys and girls from poor families have to overcome, beyond the struggle of getting into school to begin with. Many of them are forced to drop out at some point to either take care of a sick or elderly relative, get a job to support their family, or other family needs related reasons. By the time such a child is free to go back to school, the readily available options are entrepreneurship and vocational skills training institutions, as they often cannot continue with regular education. Unfortunately, the cost of these institutions (that could be considered as a midway between work and school), are still beyond the means of their families.

Lack of education has a devastating domino effect on these poor families. The parents aren’t able to get good jobs because of their illiteracy, consequently they can’t afford to pay for their children’s education. The children grow up to be like their parents, and the vicious cycle continues. It is our hope that people who choose to work with us understand the role that education plays in helping change the lives of impoverished children.

Do Good On Purpose
